Believing is Seeing
Believing in Jesus is a bigger faith than many might think. Jesus said that whoever believes in Him also believes in God the Father. So, whoever saw Jesus also saw Father God (John 14:9). That was a huge claim, but it was 100% true: Jesus was God in a human body! As Hebrews 1:3 says, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”
Jesus did not claim to be a prophet of God, but God the Son. He did not tell people to find God, but Jesus drew them to Himself to be saved. He did not encourage religious people to search for God’s light; instead He said, “I am the Light of the world” (John 8:12). His claim to release people from moral and spiritual darkness is a claim that only God can make.
That is why Jesus cannot just be a ‘good teacher’ or ‘wise example’ – what He claimed about Himself would have made Him a bad blasphemer if it was not true. But because it is true, we can come to Him, trust in Him, and know that our sins are taken away. All those who believe in Jesus come into a relationship with God because He said that “…no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Such an exclusive claim means that Jesus is equal to God (John 5:18) and that He is the only way to know God. Many believe that they can get in favour with God through their good behaviour, kind acts, prayers and other pious rites. But the gospel message is much simpler. Believe in Jesus, who has paid for all our sins by His sacrifice on the cross, repent and receive the Holy Spirit. Then, and only then, is the darkness dispelled; and hearts are at peace with God. It is the best message in the world to share; and if you already know it, then what is stopping you from telling others? As you tell them about Jesus, pray that they will believe in Him and see the light they have been seeking.
