The Authority of Jesus

Matthew 11:27
All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. (NIVUK)

The relationship between Jesus the Son of God and God the Father seems strange to many people. They cannot understand how two people can be totally at one and yet be individuals who have an objective relationship together. That is because they have never encountered God. He is totally unique: three persons who all share one character and personality, and yet can relate together as 'family' and 'business partners'.

The incarnation (the coming of Jesus as a baby), meant that Jesus was made a 'little lower than the angels' (Hebrews 2:9) in order that God the Son might be able to die. However, Jesus was given full authority by God the Father to speak in the Name of God, to reveal God's character and grant eternal life to whoever He chose. As the Son is the only true and full representation of God ever seen (Hebrews 1:3), Jesus is the only reliable way to know God. Indeed, nobody can access Father God except through Jesus (John 14:6).

The authority of Jesus is not derived from the public approval of His miracles. It is directly from Father God. Included in that authority is the right for Jesus to disclose Himself and the other members of the Trinity to any human being He chooses. So, if you know that You are a child of God, in relationship with the Father, it is only because Jesus has personally chosen to disclose the mystery of the Godhead to you. What a privilege!

Although many people would like to know God, it is only possible through the revelation of Jesus. God is not discovered by human exploration, but He reveals Himself to all who trust in Jesus. That is why it is impossible to understand God, heaven, eternity, purpose and significance without first coming to Jesus. Therefore, sharing the truth about Jesus is the only way to enable our friends and colleagues to engage with the God who made them; and eventually enter His heaven. That places Jesus as the most authoritative figure of history ever. Allow this truth to overwhelm you and share it so that others may also be given a place in His kingdom.

Prayer
Gracious God. Thank You for Jesus, through whom I can see Your character and through whose death my sins have been paid. I am sorry for the times when I have failed to give Jesus the highest place in my heart. Please help me to consider my Saviour afresh; His unique authority over me and the unique access He has given me into Your presence. Help me to communicate the unique Jesus to my friends and colleagues so that they may also come to know You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
