2 Peter 1:3 tells us that God’s divine power has given us everything that we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him. This means that as we get to know God better we are thoroughly equipped to live full holy lives. God's word in the Bible is a huge part of how He has revealed Himself to us so that we can know Him personally. We study His word to learn how we are saved from sin and how we can live holy lives, while we wait for Jesus return ( 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 1 Peter 5:1, James 5:7-8, 1 John 2:28). The Bible story is this story of how to be saved (both in our daily lives today, and after we die). The very purpose of the Bible is to communicate with people who do not believe this good news. The Bible wants unbelievers to understand three things:

1. The current situation of mankind. When God created Adam & Eve they were perfect. They were alive physically, and they were alive spiritually in that they had a face to face relationship with God. However, when they sinned all creation was corrupted, and all their descendants have been born physically alive but spiritually dead. They are spiritually dead because Adam & Eve’s sin has touched every part of creation, and every man and woman is now born with sin already a part of them (Romans 3:23). As a result, they can no longer have a face to face relationship with their holy God (they are spiritually dead), and they will become physically dead because of their sin.
2. God’s solution to our problem. The Bible tells us that the only punishment for sin is death, but God loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place, and take the punishment for our sin upon Himself (John 3:16, 1 John 3:16, Romans 5:8-9, Hebrews 9:27-28). Today, if we believe in Jesus, then the Bible tells us that He has already died for our sins, and has given some of His righteousness to us. Because of this, our sin has gone and we can again meet with God and get to know Him personally (we are spiritually alive).
3. The Christians current situation. The Christian is spiritually alive again, and can speak with God and know Him personally. However, he still lives in a world full of sin, and his body still loves to take part in the sin around it. However, God is working within each Christian to make him holy (to sanctify him), and each Christian has a responsibility to turn his body away from sin and live a Godly life (Hebrews 10:14, 1 Timothy 6:11, 2 Timothy 2:22, Galatians 5:16, 1 Peter 1:13-15). This process will not be finished until Jesus returns again, and we are given new perfect bodies (2 Corinthians 5:1).

This is the central message of God’s word, and God has revealed it so that those who do not believe can understand their current situation and their big problem. A part of the responsibility of believers is to thoroughly understand this message, and share it with unbelievers so that they have heard the truth that God has revealed to us. This is important because the Bible tells us that one day we will all stand before Jesus at the final judgment (John 5:22, Romans 2:1-11, Hebrews 9:27). Believers are covered by Jesus sacrifice, their sins are already paid for and they will live eternally with their God (John 5:24, 6:47). Unbelievers will still in their sin, they are still physically and spiritually dead, and they will not be able to live with their God (John 3:36, 1 John 5:12, Hebrews 10:26-31).
